Traditional Festival in the district of Gracia
15 – 21 August, 2013: Gracia is one of the most popular districts of Barcelona.
Originally, it was populated by countrymen who came to the city attracted by the demand of the Catalan textile industry, giving rise to the labor class in town. In the late nineteenth century the district of Gracia is quickly transformed into a village of workers, artisans and small traders thus defining their urban sense. It was precisely the numerous labor entities and recreational such as Ateneos or Dance Societies that prompted this scope less religious and giving the characteristic hue, especially because mostly the public who frequent the streets are young and open minded. Every year in August, the district of Gracia celebrates one of the biggest and most popular neighborhood festival attracting, La Festa Major de Gracia, which propose over a week exhibitions, children’s activities, workshops, sports activities, parades, performances by various artists, dance, theater and more. In the squares called Plaza del Sol or Plaza Rius i Taulet you can attend jazz concerts, rock and even classical music. For foodies there will be a section devoted to gastronomy. You can not not miss the famous Correfocs, National Diada Day or Gegants Castellers, all with great atmosphere!
